Caring Luxury - Charity Programs ( Responsible Tourism Business Practices ) The Viceroy Bali hotel in Ubud takes great pride in helping to raise funds to support the Ubud Rotary Club projects. Caring Luxury Projects Project Name: Muntigunung Water Project Brief Description: To provide access to water for villagers in the Muntigung area of Bali. Funding: A number of fundraising activities are being planned, including the gala ‘Wine for Water’ wine auction and dinner organised by the Viceroy Bali Project Name: Bunutan Access to Water Brief Description: Provide materials for a gravity-fed system of flexible pipes, coffer dams, and cisterns for the villages. The labour and maintenance will then be provided by villagers. Funding: Funding via Matching Grant with RC Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Project Name: Ambulance for Bumi Sehat Birthing Clinic in Ubud Brief Description: Provide a properly outfitted ambulance and trained staff. One of the key reasons for the hotel being involved with this project is that between 2006 and 2007 there was a 43% increase in the number of babies delivered at Bumi Sehat Clinic, from 364 to 521 births. At the same time, community need has driven Bumi Sehat Clinic into primary care services as the increase in family size has resulted in greater pressure on the clinic’s resources. As an example, between 2006 and 2007 there was a 32% increase in the number of patients seeking general health care at Bumi Sehat Clinic. At the moment the clinic only has a single standard vehicle covering all the clinic’s transportation functions, and this is not adequate. Funding: Funding via Halloween Fundraiser and Matching Grant Project Name: Gianyar Waste Recovery Project in Temesi Brief Description: The objective of this project is to research and develop an environmentally friendly, safe and economically viable solution to waste treatment for the entire Regency of Gianyar with its 422,000 inhabitants, which can be easily replicated in the region. The project will process 50 tons of waste per day and it is hoped it will help to alleviate poverty through the creation of 120 new jobs. Previously selected as one of 12 United Nations Environmental Showcase Projects Award for 2008, out of 353 applications, the Gianyar Waste Recovery Project in Temesi got the Award for reaching 1stplace in our region! Funding: Funding from a variety of donors Project Name: Temesi Educational Environment Park Brief Description: Awareness building and education are the key issues in tackling the Bali environmental and specifically waste problems. The Re-Cycling Project (above) is visited frequently by schools, Government officials, NGOs and other interest groups. Seeing solutions, combined with interactive and hands-on activities in an educational centre have a much longer lasting impact, not only on school children, but also on adult visitors. Emphasis will be on interactive presentations, hands-on experiences and practical solutions for the general population. A further important function of the Centre will be encouraging and actively supporting the planning and implementation of material recovery facilities in other areas of Bali and Indonesia to replicate the Gianyar Material Recovery Facility, thus creating a synergy between the two projects. We are concentrating on children in orphanages in Bali Funding: Funding from Rotary Clubs in Japan. Project Name: Children at Risk – HIV / AIDS Brief Description: Produce and distribute educational brochures. Funding: Funding via donations and Matching Grant with RC Nusa Dua. Project Name: Pejeng Learning Centre Brief Description: The centre will teach English, computer skills and reading, as well as provide a library which the community can use. We also envisage that the centre could offer classes to the older women within the banjar, many of whom are illiterate. Funding: Funding from a RCBU member with a business in the community and a Rotary Club in Oregon USA.
